My Easy Trick for Creating a Whole House Color Palette

The white trim on top of the window gives polish to space. The decorating choices and the color choices make this place contemporary and comfortable. Up next in our whole house color palette are the secondary living spaces – bedrooms, offices and sometimes dining rooms. These rooms can be painted with one of the neutral paint colors already selected, but they can also feature more colorful paints that coordinate with the overall palette.

Both neutrals and whites come with their own set of challenges, of course. Figuring out the dominant undertone is always the main concern. This shade has some purple or pink undertones in it, so be sure to test a large swatch to be sure that you like the look.

Classic Meets Modern Small Bathroom Makeover

Ideally, this color should fall into the energizing or relaxing category that you chose for yourself in step 1. If you decided in step 1 that you want to be energized at home, this should be one of the warm colors. If you decided that you want to relax at home, this should be a cool color. They are perfect if you want to come home to de-stress. Instead, I pick color families and then use a few rules to apply those colors to my rooms when I’m decorating.

This way, you can see how they change in the different types of light. Give your home beachy vibes by incorporating plenty of natural textures — think woven baskets, bamboo shades, and linen curtains — and even some mildly weathered wood. You can purchase Peel-and-Stick paint samples from companies like Samplize. In some homes, these areas may be completely sectioned off and could be treated as their own spaces. But in most modern homes they are open concept or open layouts and should be considered as one large space. If your finishes are more modern, go with a clean white like Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace or the slightly warmer Sherwin-Williams Pure White.

Pick a trim and ceiling white – and stick to it.

If the white looks good throughout the entire house, then you can pick and choose any of the colors that you like from the palette for your walls. Choose the room that you frequent the most as a starting point for your whole house color scheme. More often than not, this is the kitchen or living space.

So I move a few shades in on the color swatch and find another great color. And are going for a complementary color scheme you'll want to choose a white with a touch of grey or blue in it. While I loved the light neutral greige in the office and in our hallways, I still wanted to use a cooler gray in other parts of the house. After trying a handful of different shades I decided on “Passive” By Sherwin Williams. Oh boy I’ve been working so hard to do my home which has all REAL oak floors, trim, doors, crown molding and I am just not up to painting it all white.

I personally like for bedrooms to each have their own personalities and paint colors that make sense for their vibes. They don’t have to be in the same proportion, however…sometimes some pink flowers in my blue living room are all the warmth that is needed to brighten up the whole space. Now before anyone gets too nervous about having to pick bright colors for everything, you can choose any shade within these color families. That doesn’t mean your non-selected colors can’t appear anywhere in your house. If you didn’t choose yellow, but you find a painting you love with some yellow in it, by all means use it. But those colors should not appear often and should never be the focal point of your room.

It’s already a busy area, and too much color can make it feel even busier. If all-neutral kitchens aren’t your style, a good approach for kitchen color schemes is choosing one bold color and a few neutrals to work with. Since bathrooms have a very specific function and are some of the smallest rooms in a house, it’s important to choose color carefully. Since darker colors can make a room look even smaller and bright colors may feel too chaotic in such a small space, light colors and neutrals are best for your bathroom color palette. Neutrals are classic and tend to be perenially trending bathroom colors. But painting a room, or even an accent wall, such a bold color can be nerve wracking!

Should your whole house have the same color scheme?

The rug is also very well color-coordinated with the whole space and this makes it an unexpected yet the right color scheme. Not to miss, the golden lamp at the side table which also golden adds a regal touch to the palette. This type of paint colour can be found in Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams range also. In this article, we will be sharing 20 color palettes of various tones. Hopefully, this can help you decide your sanctuary space’s overall colors and vibes and create your dream home.

Along with paint colors, a whole house color palette includes accent colors that guide you while choosing decor, finishes for things like wood furniture, floors, stone, and metal. Overall, it acts as a complete blueprint for making decorating decisions. If you're on the hunt for a barely there greige paint color, Benjamin Moore Classic Gray may be for you. In the kitchen at the Denmead House, we had very little natural light coming in because of the screened in porch. Since we were installing white cabinets, I wanted a paint color that would add the slightest contrast and a bit of warmth, but still have minimal visual weight like white paint. Classic Gray is a very interesting neutral paint color.

We've used it now on kitchen islands, shiplap, bathroom vanities, and barn doors. I think it pairs pretty perfectly with brass/gold hardware. If you choose Dorian Gray for a room color, it will be rather dark on the walls. Unless you're going for a more moody look, I would use this gray paint color as more of an accent. The South American country Peru inspires a lot of interior design when people create their homes. This uses natural materials and bright colors and patterns.

We've learned from our mistakes over the years, and below I've gathered together our tried and true paint colors that transition seamlessly from room to room. We love these wall paints and home buyers seem to love them too. White Dove has soft, almost invisible yellow undertones and it works equally well in darker spaces and in spaces with a lot of natural sunlight. This color is used as a trim color in every room of the house.

Moreover, the color scheme can be used anywhere from the kitchen to the living room because it can work well in any part of the house. Color palettes like this are versatile and can be tweaked a bit according to your personality to create a mix of comfort and style. This is a great paint color to go with wood trim as you can see in the Avenue House below. Since Repose Gray is a more true gray, I would be careful putting it next to beige and cream tones such as cabinets and carpet. This grey paint color adds a nice amount of contrast to white trim without being too heavy or dark. I like using this in bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens.
